Glasgow City Attractions

Scotland has been used as the filming location for many well-known movies and tv shows. From The Da Vinci Code and Braveheart to Macbeth and Outlander, this tour aims to take you on a journey to these locations, while also giving you the chance to step into some of your favorite scenes. This tour will help you understand the impact these landscapes make on filmmakers as well as why they keep on coming back. Quite like the movies themselves, you’ll never want your trip to end!

Day 1: Glasgow & Rosslyn Chapel

Upon your arrival in Glasgow, you’ll be greeted by your chauffeur who will then take you to your hotel in the city. After settling in, begin your exploration of the city by foot today. See George Square and marvel at its many statues and monuments. Continue on until you reach Glasgow Cathedral. It is spectacular both inside and out with The Necropolis providing a suitable backdrop. You can also choose to make a stop at the oldest house in the city - Provand's Lordship. Later on, head an hour east to Rosslyn Chapel. This was a major filming location for The Da Vinci Code. The main characters of the film (played by Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou) were on site here for several days. Most of the interior scenes of the chapel were filmed here and once the movie came out, Hanks said, "Rosslyn Chapel was all one could imagine or hope for." In the evening, find a nice spot in Glasgow for dinner and drinks before heading back to your accommodation.

Day 2: Doune Castle

This morning, enjoy a beautiful drive north thru the Highlands. As you pass Stirling, stop to tour Doune Castle. This castle has been featured in many well known movies and shows. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the BBC's Ivanhoe, Game of Thrones, as well as Outlander can all boast this beautiful castle as a filming location. You can also take an audio tour and hear about the scenes from some of the world's most beloved small and big screen entertainment. You'll soon discover that you’re at a prime location of Scottish history and not just walking in the steps of cinema royalty. As you enter places like the musician's gallery, the double fireplace and the carved oak screen, you'll marvel at the world these royals once resided in. On your way back, stop to see the breathtaking area by Glen Etive where we see 007 returning to his Scottish roots in Skyfall. Once you’ve explored enough, continue on until you reach Glencoe and check into your accommodation for the night.

Day 3: Glencoe Village & Glenfinnan Viaduct Bridge

Get ready for an exciting day of sightseeing around Glencoe. You should definitely begin with a visit to the Three Sisters of Glencoe. Check out Glencoe Village where you'll find a tribute to the fallen MacDonald clan members who were killed centuries ago by the Campbells in the Massacre of Glencoe. Next, your chauffeur will take you to the lovely town of Fort William for lunch. This lovely area was used as a filming spot for Mel Gibson's Braveheart with some beautiful shots taken in the mountainous region of Glen Nevis. Your day full of sightseeing will end after you find the Glenfinnan Viaduct. This was featured in the Harry Potter films taking students to Hogwarts. You’ll then be taken back to Glencoe where you can enjoy dinner and return to your accommodation.

It's considered to be one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands. Admire the furniture, Jacobean artifacts, displays of weapons and fine art. As you walk around and discovers its history, you may even recognize its location from films like Made of Honor, The Wicker Man, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and The World is Not Enough. Take the Tasting Tour and sample a "wee dram" of the only Single Malt whisky made on the Isle of Skye. You'll also enjoy dramatic views of the Cuillins. If there is still time, head over to The Fairy Glen - a place as magical as it sounds. This glen is made up of a small loch, an ancient ruined castle and unexplained fairy circles made of stones. This is also another filming spot of the fairytale movie Stardust, and it’s obvious why. Later, head back to your accommodation in Portree.
