Zurich – Lucerne – Lugano – St. Moritz
Welcome to awe-inspiring Switzerland. Upon arrival, you will transfer by train to your hotel and check in. In the afternoon, enjoy a private guided Zurich walking tour. Experience the sites of the old town and its beautiful churches. By train you will be taken to the top of Zurich where you get the opportunity to mingle with the group while enjoying a glass of wine with snacks and a breathtaking view over the city and the lake.
Welcome Dinner in the city and overnight in the Hotel Glockenhof****.
Today a short train transfer and 20 minute walk will get you to a farm where you will learn everything about its agriculture, organic grown food and history. Depending on the time of the year you might be able to pick your own fruit.
A delicious farm to table lunch awaits you with the opportunity to try the fresh made apple cider of the farm.
After lunch the train will take you to Lucerne where you will check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight in the Grand Hotel Europe**** in Lucerne
Lucerne – a city nestled in the heart of Switzerland and embedded within an impressive mountainous panorama. Today you will get to know all the stories of the city while visiting many sights and the medieval Chapel Bridge which is considered to be one of the oldest, covered wooden bridges in Europe. A perfect ending of your day will be the gourmet dinner cruise on Lake Lucerne.
Overnight in the Grand Hotel Europe****.
A 45 minute train journey will take you from the city of Lucerne to the authentic Swiss mountain town of Engelberg with only 4000 residents. At the valley station you will take the aerial cable car up to the middle station where you have some time to walk around the beautiful mountain lake Trübsee. After some time at leisure the revolving cable car will take you to the top where you will enjoy a relaxing lunch with panoramic views of the glacier at 10000 feet above sea level. Once back in Engelberg another highlight will await you: The Benedictine Monastery, which has shaped the history of Engelberg for over 900 years.
Back at the hotel you will have some time to relax in the Spa. Dinner and overnight in the Grand Hotel Europe**** in Lucerne
Today a great historical adventure will come alive on board one of the most scenic trains of Switzerland. The historic Gotthard Panorama Express is a 5 ½ hour unique combination of boat and train journeys on the route between Central Switzerland and Ticino. Once you arrive in Ticino you will be surprised to learn that there are palm trees in Switzerland. Enjoy time at leisure before you take the funicular to the top of San Salvatore. Depending on the day and time of year, you will have a gourmet dinner on top of the mountain.
Overnight in the De la Paix**** in Lugano
In the morning enjoy some time at leisure, where you could choose to visit the fortress of Bellinzona, which is listed as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites. With its bastions, walls, towers, battlements and gates, this imposing fortification is a sight to behold. Later in the day a food and wine tour awaits in Lugano. This will include several stops where you enjoy various specialties from Ticino, including the delicious white Merlot.
For dinner we recommend one of Lugano’s Grottos, which was originally built as a natural rock cellar and used to store food.
Overnight in the De la Paix**** in Lugano
On day 7 the journey leads from the palm trees to the glaciers. The bus will take you to Tirano in Italy where you will have lunch. After lunch you are going to cross the Alps on the highest railway and the link between Northern and Southern Europe which connects different cultures and languages. This spectacular train ride leads across 196 bridges and through 55 tunnels.
Today you will get to taste a typical Swiss cheese fondue for dinner. Overnight in the Grand Hotel Laudinella**** in St. Moritz
Morning at leisure with opportunities to go rowing, stand-up paddleboarding, hiking or take a horse drawn carriage. If you prefer to go shopping, then St. Moritz offers an experience that is second to none compared with all the big international fashion capitals.
Afternoon train to Zurich where you will have your farewell dinner and overnight at the Hotel Glockenhof****.
